A company that owns, operates, or finances income-producing real estate, allowing individuals to invest in large-scale properties. These trusts are publicly traded and offer investors a way to participate in the real estate market without directly owning physical property. REITs are required to distribute at least 90% of their taxable income to shareholders annually.
