Sequestration

The act of isolating or setting aside persons or property under court authority. In trials it means keeping a jury free of outside contact or excluding witnesses from the courtroom so they do not hear each other's testimony, and in civil enforcement it means a court taking custody of disputed property to hold it pending judgment or as security for a debt. Federal Rule of Evidence 615 requires excluding witnesses on a party's request.
