Petit jury

A group of citizens selected to hear evidence in a civil or criminal trial and render a verdict based on the facts presented. This jury typically consists of 6 to 12 members. Its role is to determine guilt or innocence in criminal cases, or liability and damages in civil cases, after listening to testimony and reviewing exhibits.
A group of citizens who hear the evidence presented by both sides at trial and determine the facts in dispute. Federal criminal juries consist of 12 persons. Federal civil juries consist of at least six persons. See “jury” and “grand jury.”
