Pet trust

A legal arrangement established to provide for the care and maintenance of a pet after its owner's death or incapacitation. The trust designates a trustee to manage funds and a caregiver to look after the animal. Many states have enacted statutes, such as the Uniform Probate Code, that specifically authorize the creation of pet trusts.
