Funding a trust

The process of transferring ownership of assets from the grantor (the person creating the trust) to the trust itself. For the trust to be effective, assets such as real estate, bank accounts, and investments must be formally retitled in the name of the trust or its trustee. Assets not properly transferred into the trust may be subject to probate upon the grantor's death.
