Tinker v. Des Moines

A landmark Supreme Court case from 1969 that affirmed the free speech rights of public school students. The Court ruled that students do not lose their First Amendment rights when they step onto school property. This decision established that student speech can only be restricted if it substantially disrupts the educational environment or invades the rights of others.
