Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005176

A legal doctrine under which a law is deemed unconstitutional and unenforceable if its terms are so unclear or ambiguous that persons of ordinary intelligence cannot reasonably understand what conduct is prohibited. This principle applies particularly to criminal statutes, requiring them to provide fair notice of what is forbidden. It also prevents arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement by authorities.
