Wet reckless

An informal name for a plea bargain reducing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) to reckless driving, with a note on the record that alcohol was involved. This conviction carries lesser penalties, such as smaller fines and no mandatory license suspension, compared to a standard DUI. However, a wet reckless conviction is treated as a prior DUI offense if the defendant is charged with a subsequent DUI within a statutory look-back period, which is ten years in California.
