A legal document that expresses a person's wishes as to how their property is to be distributed after their death, and names one or more persons to manage the estate until its final distribution. It must be executed in accordance with statutory formalities to be valid. State laws, such as the Uniform Probate Code, govern the requirements for a valid will.
