Backhaul
Term · Logistics and supply chain · MLC-T-LOG-000015
The return trip of a commercial vehicle from its destination back to its point of origin. A carrier seeks to find a paying load, or backhaul cargo, for this return leg to avoid traveling empty, which is known as deadheading. Securing a backhaul makes the round trip profitable by generating revenue on a journey that must be made regardless of whether the vehicle is full or empty.
