Deadhead

The movement of an empty transportation vehicle, such as a truck, train car, or aircraft, from one location to another without carrying any revenue-generating cargo or passengers. This occurs when a vehicle delivers a load to a destination and then travels to its next pickup point or home base without a return shipment. The distance of a deadhead trip is measured in miles or kilometers.
