Verified gross mass (VGM)

The total weight of a packed container, including its cargo, dunnage, and the tare weight of the container itself. This declaration is a mandatory requirement under the International Maritime Organization's Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention. Shippers must provide the VGM to the carrier and port terminal operator before a container can be loaded onto a vessel.
