Active cloud
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003274
A cloud undergoing vertical development and producing precipitation, characterized by strong internal updrafts. These vertical motions support the growth of hydrometeors, such as raindrops or hailstones, to a size where they can fall to the ground. This contrasts with a passive or decaying cloud, which has weak or nonexistent updrafts and is no longer producing precipitation.
