Air quality standards

Legally enforceable limits on the concentration of specific pollutants in ambient air, established to protect public health and welfare. These standards define the maximum permissible levels for pollutants over specified averaging times, such as one hour, eight hours, or annually. In the United States, the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) are set for criteria pollutants like ozone and particulate matter.
