Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003407

The portion of the apparent luminance of a distant object or scene that is contributed by the scattering of ambient light by atmospheric particles between the observer and the object. This scattered light reduces the contrast and clarity of distant features, making them appear hazy. Airlight is a primary factor in visibility reduction, especially over long distances.
