Anniversary winds

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003523

A general designation for any wind that recurs predictably at about the same time each year due to seasonal shifts in large-scale weather patterns. These winds are driven by the annual cycle of solar heating, which creates consistent pressure gradients over specific regions. Examples include the etesian winds that blow over the Aegean Sea during the summer or the seasonal onset of monsoonal flows in South Asia.
