Barb

A short line or arrow attached to the shaft of a wind direction indicator on a weather map, used to denote wind speed. Each full barb represents 10 knots, a half barb represents 5 knots, and a pennant (triangle) represents 50 knots. The orientation of the shaft indicates wind direction, with the barb pointing towards the direction from which the wind is blowing.
