A strong, cold, and dry wind that descends from the mountains onto the coastal areas of the eastern Adriatic Sea, particularly in Croatia. It is a type of katabatic wind, driven by cold, dense air flowing down slopes under the influence of gravity. Barat winds can reach gale force, causing sudden drops in temperature and posing hazards to shipping.
