Blue flash
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003957
A rare optical phenomenon observed at sunrise or sunset, appearing as a momentary blue or green flash of light above the sun's upper limb. It results from the differential refraction of sunlight by the Earth's atmosphere, which separates the colors of the spectrum. The blue light is refracted more than other colors, becoming visible just as the sun dips below or rises above the horizon.
