Boussinesq number

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004005

A dimensionless quantity representing the ratio of buoyancy forces to inertial forces in a fluid flow. It is used in fluid dynamics to characterize flows where density variations are small but still influence the motion. This number is particularly relevant in atmospheric and oceanic modeling where temperature and salinity gradients drive circulation.
