Boussinesq approximation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004003
A simplification used in fluid dynamics for flows where density variations are small, except when they are multiplied by gravity in the buoyancy term. This approximation assumes that density variations are negligible in all terms of the governing equations except for the buoyancy force. It is widely applied in atmospheric and oceanic modeling for phenomena like convection, where density differences drive vertical motion.
