Boussinesq equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004004

A nonlinear partial differential equation that describes the propagation of long waves in shallow water, accounting for both dispersion and nonlinearity. It is derived under the Boussinesq approximation, which assumes that vertical accelerations are small and that the fluid is nearly incompressible. This equation is used in oceanography and coastal engineering to model phenomena such as tsunamis and tidal bores.
