Strouhal number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009327
A dimensionless quantity used in fluid dynamics to describe oscillating flow mechanisms, particularly those involving vortex shedding. It relates the characteristic frequency of the oscillation to the flow velocity and a characteristic length scale of the object. This number is often applied to analyze wind effects on structures or the shedding of vortices from atmospheric obstacles.
