Bridled-cup anemometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004034

A type of anemometer that measures wind speed using a set of cups mounted on a vertical axis, where the rotation of the cups is mechanically restricted or "bridled" to prevent over-spinning in high winds. This design allows for a more linear response across a wider range of wind speeds compared to unbridled cup anemometers. The bridling mechanism typically involves springs or weights that counteract the wind's force on the cups.
