Carbon pool

A reservoir within the Earth system where carbon is stored. These pools include the atmosphere, oceans, terrestrial ecosystems (plants and soil), and geological formations (fossil fuels and sedimentary rocks). The amount of carbon stored in each pool varies significantly, with the oceans holding the largest active carbon pool.
