Convective precipitation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004676
Precipitation that originates from convective clouds, such as cumulus and cumulonimbus, characterized by its showery nature, often intense but short-lived, and spatially localized. This type of precipitation forms when warm, moist air rises rapidly, cools, and condenses, leading to the growth of raindrops or ice crystals. Thunderstorms are a common source of convective precipitation.
