Depth-area-duration curves
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010469
A set of graphical plots that show the relationship between precipitation depth, storm area, and storm duration. Each curve typically represents a specific storm duration, plotting the decreasing average rainfall depth as the catchment area increases. These curves are developed from the analysis of major historical storms over a region and are used to estimate the maximum precipitation for a given duration over a specified basin size.
