Digging trough

A meteorological phenomenon where a trough in the upper-level atmospheric flow intensifies and extends southward or equatorward. This deepening and southward progression often leads to significant weather changes, including the development of surface low-pressure systems and increased precipitation. It is a key feature in the evolution of mid-latitude cyclones.
