Dispersion diagram
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005056
A graphical representation illustrating the relationship between the frequency and wavenumber of waves in a given medium. It shows how the phase speed and group speed of waves vary with their wavelength. In atmospheric science, these diagrams are used to analyze the propagation characteristics of atmospheric waves, such as gravity waves or Rossby waves, within different atmospheric layers.
