Eight-inch rain gauge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005294
A standard non-recording instrument used to measure the amount of liquid precipitation over a specific period. It consists of a collecting funnel with an 8-inch diameter opening that directs rainfall into a narrower measuring tube. The depth of water in the measuring tube is then read using a calibrated stick, providing precipitation totals in inches or millimeters.
