Embata

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005353

A local name for the diurnal sea breeze that blows onshore along the coasts of Greece, particularly in the Aegean Sea. This cooling wind develops during the daytime as land heats up more quickly than the adjacent sea, creating a pressure gradient that drives air inland. The embata typically begins in the late morning, strengthens through the afternoon, and subsides in the evening as the land cools.
