Equivalent width
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005460
A measure of the total absorption or emission in a spectral line, defined as the width of a hypothetical rectangular line that has the same area as the actual spectral line and a peak intensity equal to the continuum intensity. This quantity is used in atmospheric spectroscopy to quantify the strength of absorption or emission features by atmospheric gases. It is typically measured in units of wavelength or frequency.
