Reversal temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008557
The specific temperature at which a spectral line for a given substance transitions from being an absorption line to an emission line. At this temperature, the substance's radiance is identical to that of the background radiation source at that particular wavelength. This concept is used in remote sensing techniques to determine the temperature of gases, such as in the solar atmosphere or in industrial plumes.
