Froude number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005842
A dimensionless quantity that expresses the ratio of inertial forces to gravitational forces in a fluid flow. It is used to characterize the behavior of fluid motion, particularly in open channel flows or when a fluid surface is present. A Froude number less than one indicates subcritical flow, while a value greater than one signifies supercritical flow.
