Ground layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006089
The lowest portion of the atmospheric boundary layer, directly influenced by the Earth's surface. This layer, typically tens of meters thick, is characterized by strong vertical gradients of wind, temperature, and humidity due to surface friction and heat exchange. It is where most surface-atmosphere interactions, such as evaporation and sensible heat transfer, occur.
