Gulf of Papagayo

A region off the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and Costa Rica where strong, dry gap winds emerge from the continental divide. These winds are driven by high pressure over the Caribbean Sea and lower pressure over the Pacific Ocean. They create areas of intense upwelling, cooling sea surface temperatures and influencing regional oceanography.
