Hazen plotting position

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006183

A formula used in frequency analysis of hydrological and meteorological data, such as annual maximum rainfall or streamflow, to estimate the exceedance probability of an event. The formula calculates the probability (P) for an event of rank (m) in a dataset of size (N) as P equals the quantity of m minus 0.5, all divided by N. This method is one of several plotting position formulas used to assign probabilities to observed data points for graphical analysis on probability paper.
