Plotting position

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007981

A statistical method used to assign a probability or frequency to each ordered observation in a data set, particularly for hydrological or meteorological extremes. It determines the empirical cumulative distribution function for a series of events. This technique is applied in flood frequency analysis or drought severity assessment to estimate return periods.
