Helmholtz wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006225
A type of atmospheric or oceanic wave that forms at the interface between two fluids with different densities and relative velocities. These waves are a manifestation of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, occurring when the shear across the interface is sufficiently strong. They are often observed as billow clouds in the atmosphere, indicating strong wind shear.
