Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006237
High frequency, referring to the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum ranging from 3 to 30 megahertz. These radio waves are capable of long-distance propagation due to their reflection off the ionosphere, making them useful for communication. In atmospheric science, HF radar systems are used to monitor ocean surface currents and wave heights, as well as for studying the ionosphere itself.
