Highland ice

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006252

An accumulation of ice and snow that covers an extensive area of elevated terrain, such as a mountain plateau or a high-altitude region. This type of ice mass is distinct from valley glaciers, as it is not confined to a single valley but spreads across broader, higher ground. Highland ice can feed multiple outlet glaciers that flow down into surrounding valleys, contributing to regional hydrological cycles.
