Ice blink
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006401
A luminous appearance in the sky, typically a yellowish-white glare, observed over distant ice or snow fields that are below the horizon. This phenomenon occurs when light reflects off the ice surface and is then scattered by the atmosphere, making the ice visible indirectly. Ice blink is an indicator of the presence of extensive ice cover, even when it cannot be seen directly.
