Ice front

The seaward-facing cliff of an ice shelf or glacier that extends into the ocean. This boundary marks the transition from grounded ice to floating ice, where calving events release icebergs into the marine environment. Ice fronts can be hundreds of meters high and are subject to erosion by ocean currents and waves.
