IF-THEN rule
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010554
A conditional statement used in expert systems, fuzzy logic, and decision-making processes, where a specific action or conclusion (the 'THEN' part) is triggered if a certain condition or set of conditions (the 'IF' part) is met. In meteorology, these rules can be used in forecasting models to represent relationships between atmospheric variables and weather phenomena. For example, 'IF temperature is below freezing AND precipitation is occurring THEN expect snow'.
