Production rule
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008166
A conditional statement used in expert systems and automated forecasting algorithms, structured in an 'IF-THEN' format. The 'IF' part specifies a set of meteorological conditions or data patterns, and the 'THEN' part dictates the conclusion or action to be taken, such as issuing a forecast or a warning. For example, a rule might state: IF the 1000-500 hPa thickness is below 5400 meters, THEN precipitation will be in the form of snow.
