Impinger
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006464
A type of air sampling device that collects airborne contaminants by drawing air through a liquid medium, where the contaminants are trapped or absorbed. The air stream is typically directed at high velocity onto the bottom of a flask containing the liquid, creating bubbles that facilitate contact. Impingers are used to collect gases, vapors, and some particulate matter for subsequent chemical analysis.
