International Units

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006614

The system of measurement units recommended by the World Meteorological Organization for use in meteorological observations and reporting, based largely on the International System of Units (SI). While fundamental quantities like length are measured in meters, the system also sanctions the use of certain non-SI units for practical purposes. For example, temperature is reported in degrees Celsius, and wind speed is often given in knots.
