Isohaline

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006699

A line on a chart or a surface within a three-dimensional body of water that connects points having equal salinity. While primarily an oceanographic term, isohalines are relevant to meteorology through air-sea interactions, as salinity influences water density, which in turn affects ocean currents that transport heat and modify weather patterns. Salinity is measured in practical salinity units (PSU) or parts per thousand.
