Practical salinity units
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008097
A dimensionless unit used to express the salinity of seawater, based on the electrical conductivity ratio of a seawater sample to a standard potassium chloride solution. This scale replaced older methods based on chlorinity and is widely used in oceanography and marine meteorology. A value of 35 PSU corresponds approximately to 35 grams of dissolved salts per kilogram of seawater.
