Chlorinity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004287

A measure of the total mass of halide ions, primarily chloride, bromide, and iodide, in a given mass of seawater, expressed in grams per kilogram of seawater. Historically, it was determined by titration with silver nitrate. This value is closely related to salinity, with salinity often calculated as 1.80655 times the chlorinity.
